Magnet Groom & Tack Games

While we’re on the theme of magnets, here are some more ideas!

These are some props and activities from Heartland Therapeutic Riding. While attending the Advanced Workshop I asked if I could take pictures of their activities and share, and they kindly obliged!

For both games they used magnets and magnet/metal boards, which were located in several places around the arena, at rider eye-level, and with different colored frames:

Setup

  • Place horse image on one magnetic board. Keep image sheet nearby.
  • Hide the grooming tools around the arena on the other magnetic boards.

Directions

  • Whoa at the board with the horse image.
  • Explain to groom the horse you need different grooming tools. Use the image sheet to explain the tools and the correct order they are used.
  • Ask the rider collect the tools and bring them back to the horse in the correct order, placing them on the magnetic board by the horse.
